The Graça Funicular has opened

Now that it has opened to the public, the Graça Funicular will operate with extended hours - from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Since its reopening on April 30, and during an initial period of adjustment and usage assessment, the Funicular operated from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Starting May 15, it will operate from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., or 14 hours a day (every day of the week). That’s six more hours of operation per day, representing a 75% increase in daily availability.

The Graça Funicular carried more than 3,600 people in its first two weeks

With a capacity of 14 passengers per trip, it recorded a daily average of approximately 220 passengers on weekdays and 330 passengers on weekends. Approximately 70% of trips were made by occasional users and 30% by holders of the Navegante Pass.

The extended schedule reinforces the role of the Graça Funicular as a mobility solution for residents, workers, and visitors, improving accessibility between two historic neighborhoods in the city of Lisbon—Mouraria and Graça.

Between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.

About the Funicular

The facility opened in 2024 and was awarded the "Prémio Valmor" that same year. It has been closed in recent months for a technical safety inspection and has received renewal of its “Operating License” from the IMT – Institute for Mobility and Transport, confirming that it meets all necessary requirements to operate safely.

The Graça Funicular, recognized for its architectural value with a design by Architect João Favila de Menezes, is a strategic facility for the city’s mobility and serves as a factor for social integration by connecting Mouraria and Graça, two historic neighborhoods of Lisbon.

The area surrounding the facility, which extends up the hill, will undergo landscaping work in the coming months, along with the development of a management concept for public spaces, designed to promote its use and enjoyment by residents and visitors alike.
