Children
Aged up to 3 (included)
Children aged up to 3 can travel on CARRIS free of charge. No Lisboa VIVA card is necessary. If proof is required, just show the child's identification document.
From 4 to 12 (included)
Children aged between 4 and 12 are entitled to free transport on CARRIS in the entire AML, provided they have a Lisboa VIVA card with a Child Profile or a Metropolitan Navegante 12.
The Child Profile is valid up to the end of the month when the child reaches the age of 13. In the month when the child reaches the age of 13, the Child Profile on the Lisboa VIVA card automatically changes to a Normal Profile, but continues to be valid (see renewal date on the card).
School Navegante
The School Navegante is for all children enrolled in primary schools in the Lisbon City school network, whether public or private, and allows them to access the collective public transport network in the 18 municipalities in the AML, free of charge, until they reach the age of 13.
After the age of 13, students can keep their School Navegante card until 9th year. This can be loaded with the required ticket and is considered to be the equivalent of a 4_18 card, with discounts from 25%.
At the beginning of each school cycle (1st, 5th and 7th years), the School Navegante card is requested at the time of enrolment, using a special form for this purpose.
In other school years, parents or guardians should make the request to the schools, which centralise the requests from interested students.
The card can be picked up at the school itself or the main school in the school group where the student is enrolled.
The School Navegante card can only be obtained through the member schools, public or private.
The first card is issued free of charge.
If the card is lost, go to the Carris Shop in Arco Cego, Santo Amaro or Saldanha and request another card (€5.30).
If the card stops working: while it is still valid and this is not due to misuse of the card, go to the school office and ask for a replacement.
For further information on the School Navegante card, please see the Lisbon Municipal Council page.
